The energy was truly unmatched. When we opened the doors to the YABATECH Multipurpose Hall on April 27th for Level Up 1.0, we knew we were about to witness a shift. Young, driven, and innovative minds gathered not just to learn, but to execute.
Convened by our very own Mr. Evans Edozie, the program was anchored on one critical theme: Leveraging Technology To Unlock Opportunities in Agro-Export and Recycling Business.
Here is a recap of how the Yes Africa Foundation spent a fun, impactful day equipping the next generation of African Doers.
We brought in heavyweights—industry leaders who aren't just talking about the future of Nigeria's economy, but are actively building it. They broke down the intersection of technology, agriculture, innovation, and waste management.
Our esteemed speaker lineup included:
Dr. Olaoluwa Bamigboye – CEO, Heirs and Heralds Agro Allied Limited
Joy Kamalu – MD, Chimert Nig Ltd
Babafemi Omotosho – Recycling Business Expert
Engr. Nkem Orakwe – CEO, Recyclestack.NG
Hon. Babalola Thomas
Following the keynote lectures, we transitioned into a highly engaging panel session. The audience had the opportunity to grill the experts, asking hard-hitting questions about the realities of their respective fields. The panel was expertly anchored by Rufai Monalat alongside Dr. Abisoye Emilagba, who brought profound insights to the discussion.
We were deeply honored to have the local government grace the occasion, signaling strong institutional support for youth enterprise. The Local Government Chairman was actively represented by his son, Dr. Abisoye Emilagba, the Youth Leader of Lagos Mainland, who spent the day engaging with our young innovators.
The climax of Level Up 1.0 was the business pitch session. We saw an incredible array of brilliant ideas pitched by the attendees, proving that the potential in our youth is limitless.
While every pitch showed promise, three exceptional Doers walked away with a share of our ₦1,500,000 business grant to scale their ideas into real-world income:
🥇 1st Place (₦750,000): Mr. Aminu
Awarded for his innovative recycling company that transforms waste materials, such as discarded tires and plastics, into functional, eco-friendly furniture.
🥈 2nd Place (₦500,000): Miss Chioma Vivian
Recognized for her agro-processing business, which converts raw agricultural products like yam and corn into neatly packaged, ready-to-use branded powders, eliminating the hassle of traditional food preparation for consumers.
🥉 3rd Place (₦250,000): Miss Makanjuola Boluwatife
Rewarded for her enterprise focused on international trade, specifically her business importing apparel like nightgowns from China to meet local market demands.
To everyone who pitched an idea but didn't walk away with a grant this time—do not stop. The Yes Africa Foundation encourages you to take the feedback, polish your business plans, and continue refining your execution.
Level Up 1.0 was just the beginning. We will be announcing the date for our next intensive training and grant opportunity in due time. Until then, keep turning your potential into purpose!
